Maj. Gen. George W. Smythe, head of the U.S. Military Assistance Advisory Group, completed a third inspection of Quemoy defenses. The Central News Agency reported he was satisfied with the state of fortifications observed yesterday.

Robert A. Fender 65 of Orlando Florida died of a heart attack last night after being taken from a Chicago to Denver train. He is survived by his widow and two daughters Mrs Charles Arnold of Gold Hill Colorado and Mrs Thomas Tope of Maitland Florida. The body will be returned tomorrow to Florida for funeral services and burial.
Florida and national lawmakers moved toward final steps on reapportionment and U S bases funding. Gov Collins said he may veto the reapportionment bill, while Senate approved a $2.36 billion military construction package for bases worldwide and a House panel outlined Florida project allocations.
