In San Mateo California an intensely intelligent man attacked his wife with a hatchet and then killed himself with a carving knife. The victim is identified as Mrs. Fenske and the assailant as Robert E. Fenske 39, a U S Forest Service employee from Rock Island Illinois. Mrs. Fenske suffered head and right arm lacerations.
Harold Thomas Davant, 42, arrested in Miami on an armed robbery charge and sought by Sarasota police in the Burleigh Brooks jewelry theft. Authorities tie Davant to Jack Stearns, who pled guilty and is serving 25 years at Raiford, linked to the Sitamore ring.
R Stephen Brown 31 former Sarasota reporter for the Santa Cruz Sentinel News died in Santa Cruz California after his sports car collided with a truck. Police investigated the fatal crash and reported injuries to others. Brown's previous work and journalism career were noted by colleagues.
