Nationalist Planes Sink 6 Red Ships Near Tachens

Nationalist Defense Ministry said warplanes sank six ships near the Tachens 200 miles north of Formosa while guerrillas fought to hold Yikiangshan Island. Farther south, planes claimed two vessels sunk and three damaged off Fukien. Leaflets rained on the Red China coast as Nationalists attacked from 2 a.m. to 7:38 a.m. despite anti-aircraft fire.

Nautilus Leaves Groton for First Dive

The atomic powered submarine Nautilus departed its mooring in Groton Connecticut for an anticipated open sea dive. Officials at Atlantic Submarine Force Headquarters did not disclose the timing location or depth of the dive.

Sally Ardrey Miss Sarasota 1953 was crowned 1955 Florida Citrus Queen in Winter Haven. The 20 year old, now living in Bradenton, will represent the citrus industry and tour Europe to visit Holland and Belgium. Present were Miss America Lee Ann Merriwether as judge. Finalists included others.
