Bar Fight Fatal Stabbing Sends One To Jail
A Sunday night feud culminated in a fatal stabbing behind Freddie's Bar at 1354 Main St. Steve Nees, 32, of Kumquat Ct., died from wounds to the abdomen chest and throat. Franks Prankunes, 6-foot-270, was arrested on an open homicide investigation as detectives and the state attorney coordinated the inquiry. Neville’s assailant weapon remains undisclosed. an anonymous tip led police to the suspect. The Bar owner Fred Roll and off duty bartender cooperated with investigators.

Seven Children Die as Train Hits School Bus in Alabama
A Southern Railway freight train struck a school bus at a rural crossing near Stevenson Alabama. At least seven children and the bus driver were reported in critical condition with many others injured. The bus was transporting students to Stevenson’s grade and high schools. The wreck occurred where a road crosses the tracks between Fackler and Stevenson. Relays of ambulances rushed the injured to Jackson County and North Jackson Hospitals with some taken to Chattanooga. Names of the dead include Francis Corbitt and Leonard Beavers, son of the driver, plus another driver’s child.
