Tallahassee prepares for governor elect Farris Bryant with red white and blue bunting and inaugural stands at the capitol. Bryant will take the oath at noon as the government passes from Gov. LeRoy Collins who has served six years. He arrives Monday and plans to stay at the Duval Hotel for two days of inaugural events with hotels booked for visiting guests.
The United Nations is expected to warn Belgium against using Ruanda Urundi as a base for Congolese army actions against rebels in Kivu. Mobutu troops were beaten back after a four hour clash as they moved toward Kivu from the Belgian territory.
Florida faces a midweek temperature drop after a weekend cold front stalled between Nassau and Havana. Rainfall was light, with Jacksonville recording about half an inch. Today is cloudy with some sun, highs 66 to 75, lows 58. Northeast winds 8 to 15 mph. December normals listed for several cities.
United Press reports say Gev Ernest Vandiver has been chosen by President elect Kennedy as secretary of the Army. Salinger declined comment while Kennedy vacationed in Palm Beach. An aide noted Vandiver is out of town and might be in Florida. if he resigns, Lt. Gov. Garland Byrd would become governor.
In Belgium a lull on New Year’s Day follows days of strikes and riots over austerity. About 60 arrests have been made in two weeks with Charleroi Liege and Namur among sites. Socialist leaders plan new demonstrations. Communists call for a general strike and a march on Brussels.

Nearly 30 years in receivership ended Sunday as St. Joe Paper Co. assumes control of the Florida East Coast Railway after a U.S. District Court order. New officers of the Jacksonville Miami line signed bonds and stock papers to formalize the reorganization. St. Joe Paper, part of the Alfred I. DuPont estate, held most defaulted FEC bonds. Edward Ball became chairman and president.

Vientiane residents flee. 60 officials evacuated to Thailand as U.S. eyes possible intervention. The attack is blamed on Red China and North Vietnam. Laos warns other cities face threat.
Actors Robert Horton and Marilynn Bradley were married in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Horton, 35, star of Wagon Train, and Bradley, 24, began their honeymoon here, marking Horton's third marriage and Bradley's second.
