Officer Riley Served As Pilot in Pacific
New Yorker by birth, William J. Riley of Sarasota patrols the traffic division while pursuing acting roles. A WWII B24 pilot in the Southwest Pacific, he joined the force in 1946 and runs the Bilkay Motel with his wife Anna Katharine, aided by son Riley who ran for sheriff in 1952. He trained at Del ehanty Police Institute and the Florida Police Academy and remains a first lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve.

Thirty three boats moved from St. Petersburg to Fort Myers as part of Operation Jim Brevis a large water sampling and current study to identify Red Tide causes. Fourteen Sarasota volunteers joined early departures to stations up to 45 miles offshore to collect water samples for salinity gymnodinium brevis presence and radioactivity under Dr Ilmo Hela of the University of Miami Marine Laboratory.

Sandor Roka a 58 year old Hungarian native and veteran midget performer with Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Combined Shows dies after brief illness. A Requiem Mass will be sung by Rev.
