Cooler Air Advects South Across Central U S

A widespread cool front moved southward across the north and central plains and the western Great Lakes early today. Pilots Return Is Set From Korean Front

SEOUL Air Force Lt. Guy H. Bumpas of Jackson Mississippi is scheduled to recross the line to freedom tomorrow after six days as a prisoner of the Communists. He will be returned with Army Capt. Charles W. Brown of West Louisville Kentucky whose plane was shot down. Brown was killed and Bumpas suffered a possible skull fracture. The Army will have a helicopter and a doctor to meet them. The Communists claim the plane was spying and call the captain murdered by a gang of gunners while Parks denounces the charge.

Richard Carpenter, 26, who confessed killing a detective and wounding a patrolman, was denied permission to attend Roman Catholic services in county jail. Chaplain Cronan Murphy visited him. Snake Cult Breakup After Rattlesnake Incident

In Harlan Kentucky state police arrested Rev. William Vernon of Keokee Virginia after he handled four deadly snakes before about 2000 worshippers in a mountain hollow. Vernon faces a Kentucky law violation and was released on bond ahead of a trial next Friday near Caywood. The Pentecostal Holiness meeting aimed to confront a rattler that fatally bit Lee Valentine in Fort Payne Alabama. The snake was confiscated along with others, ending the service after about three hours.
