Senate weighs new workers covered by wage bill

The Senate moves to decide how many workers will be covered by Kennedy’s minimum wage bill after rejecting amendments. Port Charlotte traffic summit on U S 41 to curb deaths

Four people died and about 50 crashes occurred on U S 41 in Port Charlotte over two years, prompting a 7:30 p m meeting at the Port Charlotte Community Center with State Road Department planning engineer Tom Bates. Attendees will review SRD traffic flow plans for the highway split, discuss installing a traffic signal via North Tamiami Drive, and consider lowering the speed limit.

Manatee Phone Service Disrupted in Bradenton

Emergency crews worked through the night to replace two underground telephone cable sections damaged by water. The outage affected about 1,500 phones in the area south of Bradenton. By morning most were restored and a General Telephone Co. spokesman said remaining lines in Bayshore and Fairlane Acres would be normal in two to three hours.
