Soviet says U S trained spy captured at frontier
The Soviet Union announced that an American trained spy identified as V M Slavnov was captured in June while attempting to cross into Iran after a mission inside the USSR. He was trained at a U S espionage school in West Germany and sent from a base in Leningrad to gather rocket and defense data. The Tass report did not reveal his nationality or duration of the illegal stay.

In Wausau Wisconsin a couple received the body of their 24 year old son Frank Becker delivered in a sheet metal casket without prior notice from Albuquerque New Mexico University student who died in Mexico City. A Mexican death certificate provided no death details and attempts to learn cause of death failed with officials. The embassy said delivery without parental notice would be unusual. The son had traveled from Albuquerque after term ended and stayed near Mexico City. the family sought answers from Mexican authorities and the embassy.
