Health Hunters Meet in Chicago On Public Health Resort Study

The American Health Resort association held its first public meeting at the Grand Pacific in Chicago. Eminent physicians attended as agents were dispatched to collect climate data and assess health resorts. Reported efforts include Las Cruces New Mexico and Santa Fe among others with planned visits in November to southern sites and Albuquerque.

City Council Protests Merchants License Plan in Silver City

City council met in regular session with president presiding as mayor was absent. Merchants filed a protest against a proposed merchants license, arguing Silver City’s charter limits tax and license powers. Reports showed 9 arrests, $9 in fines, $60 poll taxes collected, and $58.50 spent on street repairs. City marshal noted 273 poll tax payers out of 1200 names. The council approved ordinances to curb fast bridge riding, advised arming officers, and planned sprinkling contracts. Electric company indicated interest in extending service and a future franchise for lighting and street railway. The meeting adjourned with peace.

Conductor Harris Shot Teck King Then Fled Toward Mexico

After a brutal shooting in Las Vegas early Monday morning conductor Harris fled southward reaching Bernal nineteen miles away. He confessed to the night operator about the Teck King shooting and his plan to escape into Mexico, then waited for a southbound freight. Las Vegas depot police were alerted and headed to Bernal.
