The Queen Bee led four inmates to slip from the territorial penitentiary under cover of a storm night. Currence, Huber, Gould, and Clark, all long-term prisoners, used the kitchen cage and sawed bars to reach the cellar window. Deadly Collision Near Carlisle Springs Stuns Denver

A westbound narrow gauge D RR express from Salida and a broad gauge Salt Lake express collided near Carlisle Springs Colorado just after dawn. Four men died including engineer George Ardell conductor A H Fargas and express messenger C M Cole. Several others were injured none of the passengers on the westbound train were hurt. The crash likely stemmed from order confusion as the westbound train passed a siding and struck the eastbound train.

Blaine’s health report fuels 1892 nomination talk

Detroit July 23 Captain Gavett received a letter from J H Manley of Augusta Maine in response to his query about Secretary James G Blaine. Manley a longtime friend and advisor says Blaine has regained health and will return to Washington in fall with vigor. He adds Blaine cannot be a candidate but if the Republican party nominates him in 1892 he will accept.
