City Council Bills and Improvements Discussed at Regular Session

The city council met at the courthouse on Tuesday evening. Mayor Thornton presided with all members present except Alderman Mondragon. The street commissioner reported 23 crossings and bridges needing repairs at about 479 dollars, authorized to hire labor and fix them. William White appointed city engineer to establish grades on plaza surround streets. Ordinances 16 and 17 adopted. Sheriff’s bid to board city prisoners at 75 cents daily accepted. City treasurer presented a 10,000 dollar official land. Increase in police force mentioned but not decided. Clerk pro tem Mar celino Garcia officiated. The electric light contract for street illumination to be prepared. Sidewalk laying ordinance referred to streets committee. Penitentiary brick bids rejected. 4.30 per 1000 was high versus production cost. Penitentiary plans to use bricks locally. Albuquerque water works rates examined. Judge Thornson criticizes high prices. Discussion of paving and sidewalks continues. Las Vegas Optic notes talk of a national park plan near Pecos and Rio Santa Fe. concerns over fish sales and seining.
