Prisoner Escapes as Deputy Seeks Help Near Riverbend

Forger Joe Lee Escapes From County Jail

Brent The Socorro chieftain notes Joe Lee, convicted for forging Mayor Sniffen's name and sentenced to one year labor, escaped yesterday afternoon from the county jail during a term of the district court. A petition seeking his pardon circulated and signed to Governor due to ill health. Lee had aided in arranging tax books in the sheriff's office in prior weeks.
