Fradulent Real Estate Scheme In Chicago And California Park

Chicago Tribune outlines the Chicago and California Park colony scheme led by BR Porter. Porter, with agents W B Bayford and Maurice Labner, secured options on 3000 acres near Colfax, selling town lots at 50 to 75 dollars and acreage at 75. About two buyers invested and 30000 dollars moved, but investors cannot obtain abstracts and nearby land now sells for eight dollars an acre. Porter is missing.

San Francisco October 30 The whaling bark Howland arrived from the Arctic Ocean today reports six New Bedford and seven San Francisco whaling crews engaged in recent operations. No further details available.
