Appalling Balloon Accident Seizes Ottawa Crowd

A crowd of 6,000 watched Professor Williams of Cincinnati attempt a balloon ascent at the Ottawa exhibition. Thomas Winslow clung to the ropes and plummeted from about 50 to 66 feet, then fell 1,000 feet after his grip failed, causing panic and fainting among spectators.

Winchester accident kills two children in Springville

At Springville Utah a boy playing with a Winchester rifle accidentally discharged it, killing his seven year old sister and fatally wounding a three year old girl. The girl died instantly. the sister died about half an hour later. The incident is reported among a list of varied news items.
