An unknown burglar entered an unlocked Colburn home yesterday and stole eight firearms valued at about 970 dollars. The thief also damaged a gas tank padlock and stole gasoline, plus a batch of cookies from Myron Power's kitchen table.
The Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce requests all local businesses close from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday in tribute to the late Mayor Lester R. Brown. Funeral services for Brown will be held at Moon Chapel in Sandpoint at 3 p.m. Saturday followed by interment in Lakeview Cemetery. A Sandpoint burglary reports $300 in items taken from David West’s rental apartment while he hunted, including a portable TV a hunting knife and a large blanket. A separate Priest Lake incident at Indian Creek Store involved a damaged door and two packs of cigarettes missing with a lone dollar bill found on the bar.
Democratic challenger Ken Pursley criticizes Steve Symms for refusing debates and attacks his voting record on education and energy. Pursley cites Symms as favoring big business, opposing federal education funding, and warns Idaho could lose federal aid and see higher taxes without federal support.
A four member Utah to Spokane caravan traveled 1300 miles by dirt roads and rails lasting over three months. John Nagel Debby Foss Jody Foss and Gary Smith joined in Yellowstone with a dog and mules. Jody hosted interviews for KGA Spokane while sharing meals and lodging with locals along the way. They expect to reach Spokane next week and end at the Lariat Bar with a noon October 7 interview.
A reported airplane crash near Priest River proved to be a hang glider mishap on Whitetail Butte. Deputies Rogers and Flavel located the downed craft by ground search, finding no pilot or injuries as the operator disappeared on foot.
The Washington Supreme Court unanimously upheld a $5,000 Spokane County verdict for Stephane Rasor of Sandpoint Idaho. Justice Utter ruled under the Fair Credit Reporting Act damages extend beyond out of pocket costs to include harm to reputation and mental suffering. The credit report was by Retail Credit Company of Spokane, now Equifax Inc.
David Lee Brown 3 of Kingston was fatally shot about mid morning while elk hunting near Jordan Creek in the Coeur d Alene National Forest. Dale Lyman Morris of Coeur d Alene admitted firing the fatal shot from about 50 yards using a 308 rifle. Brown, an employee of Bunker Hill Mining Co, left a wife and three children.
