Louisiana-Pacific Lays Off 60 at Chilco and Priest River Mills

The Louisiana-Pacific Lumber Co. laid off about 60 workers at its Chilco and Priest River mills after a drop in lumber demand. Plant manager Dave Miller said operations will run one shift and timing depends on market recovery, likely not until next spring. Other area mills reported no layoffs and cited diversification or ongoing operations.

Idaho Leaders Push Lumber Market Expansion In Japan

An Idaho delegation led by Lt Gov John V Evans travels to Japan with Washington and Oregon officials to promote Idaho lumber and wood products. Gov Cecil D Andrus says the effort aims to export finished goods rather than logs and to standardize dimensions for trade. The 55 member Northwest group meets Japanese officials in Tokyo and Osaka, sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Regional Commission.

Scouts Clean Lakeside Park Site for Proposed museum

Four Cub Scout dens from Pack 104 picked up litter at Lakeside Park the site proposed for a Bonner County historical museum. Between 3 30 and 5 p m they collected 82 bags of garbage before bees drove them out. Den mothers were Donna Peterson Sally Brown Rita Rusho and Jan Stolz.

Bus And Car Collide On Cocolalla Loop Road No Injuries Reported

A school bus and car collided on Cocolalla Loop Road with no injuries. Karen Lawrence of Sandpoint drove the car. district officials said the bus suffered no damage. A prior incident involved Frank J. Findlay at Fish Creek Rd when a logging truck tipped to avoid a bus. no injuries reported.

Couple seeks over 100000 in damages in Bonner County suit

Emerick and Thelma Kokot sue Bonner County and two couples after a November 1974 automobile crash on Dufort Road. They allege the Peine car, driven by the Cunningham son, crossed the road to avoid a gravel berm and hit the Kokot vehicle head on. Damages sought include 2500 for vehicle, 10350 for medical, 89000 for pain and disability, and 4350 for lost wages.
