Freidin and Goldberg Operated as White House Spies
The Nixon campaign recruited reporters Seymour Freidin and Lucy Goldberg as confidential informants to relay off the record remarks by top Democrats. Freidin began in March 1971, later replaced by Goldberg in 1972, with copies sent to Haldeman and Mitchell, and then MacGregor after Watergate. The notes reveal mutual distrust among Humphrey, Muskie, McGovern, and other contenders, plus calls for unity after private discussions.
