Paper Strike Talks Stated in Eastern Canada
The United Paperworkers International Union plans to reopen contract talks by Friday with two eastern Canada newsprint producers. UPIU spokesman says talks with Canadian International Paper Ltd resume after a six week lull, and negotiations with MacMillan Rothesay Ltd in Saint John NB follow a strike by 400 workers last Saturday. Meanwhile six Abitibi locals have ratified terms, representing about one third of Abitibi's 6,000 workers across Ontario Quebec and New Brunswick.
