One Killed Four Hospitalized In Rash Of Auto Accidents

A Hot Springs man was killed and a Hope woman critically injured in two head on crashes on U S 200. A train car accident at Elmira injured a Polson man. In 24 hours the county logged four injury accidents including a Pack River Bridge crash injuring a mother and daughter.

Andrus Seeks NASA Aid for Pacific Northwest Disasters

Idaho Governor Cecil Andrus announced a tentative agreement with NASA and the Pacific Northwest Regional Commission to use NASA resources for rapid disaster assessment across the Northwest. The plan follows lessons from the Teton Dam flood and aims to improve data interpretation and establish a regional data center, with intensified U S forestry surveillance from NASA flights.

Bonner County Receives Airport Land Purchase Grant

Idaho Senator Jim McClure announced a 28723 grant from the Department of Transportation to Bonner County for land acquisition at the airport and to clear the airport zone. Joe Haynes said the grant is allocated for the Bonner County Airport but the FAA agreement is not final and the 28723 figure is preliminary and can be adjusted after land rights appraisal.

Water Act criticised as inflexible in Northwest tour

Lawrence Birke Jr of the Northwest Pulp and Paper Association urged changes to the 1972 Clean Water Act saying it should return to state discretion and emphasize water quality results over technology. He attacked the EPA for a rigid best technology approach and called for flexibility and new tech not universally required.
