Mock election results at Sandpoint High vote tally

Sandpoint Senior High students cast 392 ballots in a secret mock election led by Merle Parsley with 683 eligible. Results show McClure to represent the U S House and Samuelson leading for Governor while Andrus could gain with additional school totals. Turnout was 57.4 percent with breakdowns by class and gender.

Class of 1961 Plans Reunion in Sandpoint

A Sandpoint High School group schedules a preliminary meeting for a 10th year reunion of the Class of 1961. The gathering is set for Monday November 27 at 8:30 p.m. at Janice Klinger's home 1011 Ruth Avenue. Committee volunteers may call Janice Boatwright after 5 p.m. at 263-2462.

Youth cited after bus crash near Sandpoint

A 17 year old from Sandpoint was cited by Idaho State Police for inattentive driving after a non injury collision with a School District 82 bus on State Highway 200 two miles east of Sandpoint. The bus carrying four from Kootenai slowed to pick up a rider when Roy Allen Crane’s car, traveling about 25 mph, struck it. No injuries occurred and the bus sustained minor damage while Crane’s car suffered about 150 dollars in damage. The bus was driven by Thelma M Burrus of Ponderay with three children aboard Jimmy Kubecka 13 Karen Kubecka 12 and Mike Kubecka 8.

Idaho Department of Law Enforcement warns snow mobilers that 1970 snowmobile registrations expire Saturday and that new registrations are required to operate in Idaho after October 31. Outhouse thefts baffle Bonner County sheriff

Bonner County residents report six wooden outhouses stolen with several more taken earlier this week. Sheriff Robert H. Wilcox says thieves hit fast and vanish before deputies arrive. Officials fear the structures may fuel a large bonfire for the high school homecoming event.

Tragic five member family found dead in Utah home

In Sandy Utah police report a distraught husband killed his wife and three daughters then died by his own hand. Curtis Iskelsen 38, Lily Fay 34 and daughters Machete 14 Anette Fay 11 Tina Maria 10 were found in three bedrooms of a light green cinder block house. Deputies described multiple gunshot injuries and a bloodstained scene discovered at 11 am by the mother’s sister and her foster mother. Further details pending autopsy.

At its October 14 meeting the Bonner County Fairboard announced the 1971 fair will run August 26 to 28. The Bonner County Horse Show is scheduled for August 19 to 22.

The Idaho Department of Law Enforcement warns that vehicles with plate endings 0 and red white 70 validation stickers must be re registered by midnight Saturday to avoid invalid status. Black on yellow 7 validation stickers will be required after the deadline and can be obtained at county assessor offices.

Elk and deer openings set for panhandle units Saturday

Idaho Fish and Game official Jack McNeel says the remaining panhandle units 1 2 lower half of unit 3 and unit 5 will open Saturday October 31. The areas mainly support white tail deer and should see a solid opening weekend thanks to recent snows and falling leaves.
