Work has begun on a two floor Lake Street Plaza Building at Third and Lake Streets in Sandpoint. The James Fenton Co. Inc. of California develops the project with James B. Fenton directing construction and leasing. Estimated cost exceeds $200000 with sitework this fall and completion planned for spring next year. Grant F. Groesbeck & Associates of Spokane are the architects.

Special Agent Aiding New Prosecutor in Sandpoint Homicide Case

Train backs into school bus. at least six children killed
A UPI report from Aragon Georgia states a work train backing into an unmarked crossing struck a school bus near Aragon Elementary School. Six children were killed and about 20 injured as ambulances ferried victims to Rockmart-Aragon Hospital while authorities and volunteers coordinated rescue efforts.

Sandpoint Head Start Center Opens After Bargaining
After months of talks with the federal grantee, the Sandpoint Head Start Center will serve 20 children this Thursday marking its third year. Housed in the former First Baptist Church at Pine and Euclid, the Oddfellows’ purchase and rental arrangement supports renovations to meet federal standards. Carpenters Bowles Watson and Bowers donate salary portions to aid the project, while donations from the community fund supplies and paint. An open house is planned for tomorrow.
