Fire damages Samuels maintenance station at PG Tran
A fire at Pacific Gas Tran smission's Samuels maintenance station caused extensive damage estimated in the several hundred thousand dollars range. The blaze started around 9 p.m. when heat from a gas turbine ignited oil used for lubrication in a 1,200 gallon tank. Northside Fire District sent two trucks, and firefighters controlled the fire in about 15 minutes. Detectors activated and rerouted natural gas to avoid danger. The turbine will be offline indefinitely and gas throughput to the San Francisco parent company will be reduced by five percent.

Sandpoint robbery suspect captured at local car dealer
Michael E. Ruberg also known as Kerry Carpenter, 21, was arrested Friday at Sandpoint Motors while picking up a car. Gesiena B. Baare, 18, was charged with aiding and abetting robbery as police linked both to the Sept. 24 robbery of an elderly Sandpoint man. Ruberg, held on robbery and escape charges, faces an arraignment. Baare also to be arraigned.

Area Traffic Accidents Injure Four Persons
Several minor injuries from unrelated weekend crashes in the county. Kent Hall of Indian Head was treated after a one car roll on Highway Two causing 2500 in damage. Lynn Major and Debbie Udland were hurt in a US 95 wreck near West Mandarin. Major released, Udland admitted. Paul Greenwood was cited after his Lakeshore Drive crash with 5000 in damage. Gary Lang escaped injury when his vehicle hit a tree. Lang cited for inattentive driving. Patricia Brown and Elmer Bjornson were cited after a collision. Brown fined for defective equipment.

Hospital Bomb Threat Strikes Bonner General in Sandpoint
Sandpoint police sealed the lobby and basement of Bonner General Hospital after a caller warned of a bomb in the basement set to detonate four minutes after the 10:06 p.m. call. Officers Geenen and Feldhausen secured all exits and searched the area with no findings. no patients were evacuated. Fire department stood by and deputies patrolled the city.
