Gary Dillon of Pastime Sport reports sufficient steel shot shells in 12 gauge for this weekend's waterfowl opener at the Kootenai Wildlife Refuge. Refuges will not stock shells. private dealers sell them. About 700 boxes arrived. earlier, only limited supplies existed at Buttrey’s in Coeur d Alene and Coast to Coast in Bonners Ferry. Refuge manager De Pierce notes last year sold about 700 boxes. duck and goose counts show 4500 mallards, 2000 pintails, 2600 Canada geese with birds more scattered this year.

Priest Lake Release Set to Begin October 11
Idaho Department of Natural Resources announced the annual Priest Lake water release starts October 11. The state owned control structure, operated by Washington Water Power Co, will lower lake levels by about one foot before ceasing outflow control. Natural inflows will drop the level a further 18 to 24 inches by early November.
