Boundary County Receives Large FAA Airport Grant

Representative James A. McClure announced that the Federal Aviation Administration will provide 64 294 dollars to Boundary County Airport for land purchase runway extension of 1300 feet resurfacing lighting for 4000 feet taxiway surface apron visual approach slope indicator and safety device. The grant covers 55 percent of total costs with Boundary County covering the rest.

Sandpoint Youth Arrested For Egg Tossing

Pat Keane a 17 year old Sandpoint resident was arrested Thursday by Sandpoint Police and charged with littering the streets after allegedly throwing eggs at passing cars from an alley on West Gedar Street Asst Chief Allard Pight led the arrest He was taken to the Bonner County Sheriff's Office and released after posting a $25 bond.

Radiosonde Found By Priest River Teen

A 15 year old Priest River High School student Chris MacDonald found a U S Weather Bureau radiosonde instrument near downtown Priest River. The device had a parachute and data packet instructing return to a U S Post Office for reassembly and eventual return to Illinois. The radiosonde costs 13 dollars to the government and can be reconditioned for six dollars saving taxpayers 150 000 annually.

Man Arrested Charged In P R Burglary

Elkhart Idaho resident James Preston Wellington, 34, is jailed on First Degree Burglary charges in the Priest River Elementary School break in. Custodian Lymon Kinnie found the school damaged and money from a book club fund missing. Police report says broken glass caused a cut to the burglar.

Mother Tells Different Tale On Sons Death

Broadus Montana teenager Mrs Gary Jones 17 told officials she slammed on her brakes to avoid a rabbit and her five week old son Shane was killed. She placed the body in a culvert outside Broadus then claimed the infant was abducted when she stopped to buy cigarettes. Officials recovered the infant from the culvert after a fruitless search for three days.

Lisa Curless Improves After Heart Surgery

Seven year old Lisa Curless of Dover remains in the UCSF Moffitt Hospital intensive care after open heart surgery intended to repair three of four heart defects. An autopsy is planned for a related case while a fundraiser Gymkhana is set for October 3 at the Bonner County Fairgrounds to aid the family.

Judge Joe Irvine resigns as magistrate effective October 1 in Shoshone County. Don Swanstrom announces applications for the vacancy, available from the Clerk of the District Court in Sandpoint. Applicants must reside in Shoshone County and file forms with the District Court Administrator.

Panida Hosts World Jamboree Film in Sandpoint

The Panida Theatre in Sandpoint shows a Paramount film feature on the World Boy Scout Jamboree at Farragut State Park this weekend. It includes Sandpoint scenes with the Sandpoint High School Band at the city depot and encampment footage from Farragut, with national distribution planned.
