FHA Seeks Out In Note Purchases
The Farmers Home Administration plans to sell about 2 billion in government insured notes this year and imposes higher minimums for small investors to curb crowding. Beginning Dec 1 investors must commit at least 25 000 for one or two year notes or 15 000 for three to 25 year notes. Only notes sold through the St Louis central finance office are affected.

Holiday Toll Rises During Thanksgiving Weekend
United Press International reports the Thanksgiving highway death toll climbing toward last year’s 764, with 176 deaths in traffic since the holiday period began. California led with 16 fatalities, followed by Georgia 12 and Kentucky New York and Texas 10 each. A turkey bone choking incident is noted among the casualties. The National Safety Council expects 700 to 800 more deaths before midnight Sunday.

Sandpoint Sailor Completes Seven Month Oriskany Cruise
Damage Controlman Third Class Kenneth W. Lunde son of Mrs. Catherine Davis of Sandpoint Idaho completed a seven month deployment in the Tonkin Gulf aboard the USS Oriskany homeported in Alameda California. The ship and Carrier Air Wing 19 earned praise from the Oriskany’s commanding officer for superb bombing support of U S ground forces. In Vietnam waters the crew visited Hawaii the Philippines Hong Kong and Sasebo during the fifth consecutive deployment.

Santa Claus Planned Sandpoint Visit With Jaycees
Santa Claus, said to live north of Canada, will visit Sandpoint on Saturday December 6. Invited by Mike Plaster of the Sandpoint Jaycees, aided by the Sandpoint Senior High Ponderettes, he will meet local youngsters at the Community Hall from 11 a.m. A horse drawn sleigh tour of downtown and other ceremonies are scheduled. Candy canes will be given to children during the Community Hall visit.

Lions Toy House Opens Saturday In Sandpoint
The Lions Club Toy House will be open from 10 am to 4 pm six days a week starting Saturday at the former Carpet Shop on 208 Cedar. Residents are urged to donate usable toys to aid needy children, with contact at CO3 5625 for information. Bonner County Sheriff Wilcox warns minors possessing tobacco will be arrested and those who supply it to youths also face charges. Prosecuting Attorney Hofmeister notes underage tobacco purchase or possession is a misdemeanor and vending to minors is illegal.

Fred Shields Found Dead in Car Near Gamblin Lake
Fred A. Shields, 68, was found dead in his car near Gamblin Lake Thursday in an apparent suicide. Louis Smith reported seeing a smoking car with a hose from exhaust to a window, and notes were found on the body addressed to his brother. Moon Funeral Home will handle arrangements.
