Scouts Test Skills In First Aid Contest At Sandpoint High

About 50 Boy Scouts from Selkirk and Moyie Districts competed in a first aid contest at Sandpoint High School gym. Troop 114 Bonners Ferry captured first and second in the event organized by Captain Ken Lunde. The top three troops will advance to a regional contest in Coeur dAlene.

Evans Urges One Year Moratorium on Farm Acreage Limit

Gov. John V. Evans urged a one year moratorium on enforcing the 160 acre limit for federally watered farms unless Congress amends the 1902 Reclamation Act. He argued the policy hurts Idaho and the West, warning it could raise prices and destabilize farming, with an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 acres at risk of sale.

Nearly 66 Million Acres Potential Wilderness Eyed

Forest Service released a list of about 1,920 areas totaling 66 million acres for a year long review for possible designation as wilderness. The plan includes 305 eastern areas and 305 eastern areas, with no development allowed during the study.

Laclede Water Election Tuesday

Voters in Laclede will decide if the Laclede Water District should issue $230,000 in revenue bonds to improve and extend the water system. Polls open noon to 8 p.m. at the Laclede Community Center. No fee to vote, but an oath of qualifications is required. Bond approval requires a simple majority.
