Suffering Mayor Recovering After Hunting Accident
Kootenai Mayor Gale Barfuss, 36, injured in a hunting accident on November 13, is listed as satisfactory and recovering at Bonner General Hospital. The wound, initially described as abdominal, included a cracked rib with bullet path along the rib cage. Barfuss was shot by hunting companion Harold Theodorson of Sandpoint in the Way area, about 20 miles southeast of here.

Sandpoint police cited 17 year old Michael D. Berger for inattentive driving after a three car collision at Ella and Michigan. Berger’s car hit a parked vehicle owned by Earl Chapin, 410 S Ella, pushing it into another Chapin car and causing extensive damage.

Accident claims two lives near Bonners Ferry in head on crash
A 24 year old Spokane mother Sylvia Hunter and her three year old daughter Pamela died Friday night in a head on collision on US route 952 near the Bonners Ferry Ranger Station. Mechanic John Hunter survived in critical condition while their infant was not seriously hurt. Police investigate a tow chain incident as the cause and an accompanying city pickup driver Eugene Arledge is in hospital in serious condition with three children also injured. Funeral services were held for the mother and daughter with committal at Pines Cemetery.
