An environmental scientist testifies at Idaho Public Utilities Commission hearings that Pioneer coal plant would emit two million cubic feet of sludge annually if scrubbers are required. The sludge would contain calcium sulfate, calcium sulfite and gypsum and could harm farmland in high concentrations. He cites 175000 pounds of radioactive waste over 20 years and notes scrubbers would need about 50 megawatts to operate.

Citizens ask independent probe into Spokane teen shooting
About 50 residents urged Monday night that the shooting death of 17 year old Craig Jordan be investigated by an independent panel. They criticized county and city investigations and proposed a five member panel including a newsman, attorney, business leader, housewife and clergyman. Prank Sparks Drive In Damage in Sandpoint
A Sandpoint Junior High student allegedly ignited a screwdriver plastic handle to create a smoke bomb inside Dub's Drive In restroom. The resulting fire damaged fiberglass, paneling, sheetrock and an electric fan, with the sink ruined and total losses not yet estimated. The youth confessed and offered to assist the owner in reporting. Separately a Boyer Street garage fire damaged the building and a car but not utilities.
