Longest Resident In Practice Dr Siemsen Turns 25 Years

Sandpoint's longtime physician Dr Franz H Siemsen marks 25 years in town and reflects on a career born from a Spokane internship. He recalls 1950 move to Sandpoint, growing with the city as it expanded from four to twelve local doctors, and years of house calls, including delivering a prematurely born baby through snow to a hospital. He also highlights seven week relief surgeries in Africa in 1973 and this summer, plans an open house at his office.

Biggs Arraigned in First Degree Murder Case

Patricia Rose Biggs, 39, was arraigned in First District Court on a first degree murder charge for the stabbing death of her husband Leslie Lee Biggs, 38, early Sunday at their Bonner County home. Judge Harden ordered no bond. Biggs held under guard at Bonner General Hospital after a catatonic state. Six children aged three to 18 were placed with a relative, with Fred Palmer, her attorney, supervising custody.

Venishnick Sworn In To Sandpoint City Council Seat

Joe Venishnick was sworn in by City Clerk Dave Easton to fill the vacancy created when Ed Eitzman became mayor. Venishnick, a 25 year Sandpoint resident, works as a forester for McFarland Polo Company and is a former Idaho University, North Idaho Forestry Association president, and city volunteer firefighter. The meeting covered advertising for a city engineer, garbage service plans, CETA hires, a jetty project at City Beach, a solar heating study for City Hall, and various ordinance and permit actions.

Guthrie to Begin Housecleaning in Bonner County Sheriff Office

Guthrie plans a rapid transition to sheriff in Bonner County after November election validation around November 14. He met with County Commissioners Brockway and Anselmo to discuss changes and possible personnel moves. Hare says he knows nothing about Guthrie's takeover. a public meeting with Hare is set for 10:30 a.m. at the county courthouse.
