The Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce annual banquet installed new officers led by Ben Longbottom as President and Barbara Remmers as Secretary-Treasurer. Directors include Norm Bauer and Dan Desham Jr. Don Monahan outlined Expo 74 plans with Canada Iran Japan and the Soviet Union already committed and 15 to 20 nations expected.

School Under Investigation Edgemeade Center faces suspension probe

The Idaho Mental Health Association urges immediate suspension of Youth Rehabilitation Inc license to run Edgemeade Idaho. It calls for a full inquiry into educational and treatment programs and funding sources and asks the state board to review students constitutional right to education at the facility.

Bonner County Planning Commission Sets November Meeting

The Bonner County Planning Commission will meet on Thursday at 7 30 p m in the courthouse. Agenda items include a preliminary concept for Indian Ridge Subdivision by Dick Tucker for Indian Land Co in care of Tifft Agency. Bruce Wasserburger seeks a conditional use for an 80 unit travel trailer park. Other items cover Whisky Jack stage three approval, a commercial zone change from agriculture suburban to commercial for Mae Davis, sewer plan talks affecting Rocky Point District, and preliminary plus final approval for Green Acres First Addition by Albert E Rainey.

Record Voter Turnout Seen Across Nation

A UPI report notes an expected turnout of about 80 to 85 million Americans, roughly 61 percent of eligible voters, with heavy early voting in Ohio, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Michigan, New Jersey, Florida, and New England. The Census Bureau projects 61 percent turnout, similar to 196? levels, but below the 1964 and 1960 highs.

Comedian Joey Bishop aided a man whose boat was sinking off Marina Del Rey in a rescue credited by the Coast Guard. This marked the second rescue by Bishop in three weeks according to UPI reports.

Moratorium Sought For Subdivisions

Recommendations prepared for the Governor's Advisory Council urge a moratorium on new subdivisions until a land use plan is completed. The joint task force and environmental health committee also call for designating community areas for growth and require an environmental impact study for projects over $1 million.
