James Her Salfeld and Mrs. Avery Perkins were re elected Tuesday in Ponderay City Council. The final tally lists Steinhouse 18 votes Salfeld 18 Miller 16 Perkins 17. Miller and Mrs Perkins will serve a two year term.
Mayor Ted Brower and Councilmen Jim Krizenesky and Arley Stewart were re-elected unopposed in Priest River. Brower led with 90 of 97 ballots, Krizenesky 88, and Stewart 87. two write-ins in the west precinct. Bill Naccarato and Ed Kasalek each received one vote.
All-County Bazaar to be held Nov 7 and 8 at the Community Hall sponsored by the Civic Club. Thirty four participants include individuals and groups offering ceramics antiques crafts home canned goods and vegetables. Rummage sale room and hot meals available for visitors both days.
Elected councilmen expressed surprise and pleasure after Tuesday’s city elections. Incumbent Les Brown led with the most votes among four year candidates, Ozzie Vallieres praised friends and the Scouts like turnout, and Ron May narrowly beat incumbent Bill Lindt by 16 votes for the third four year seat, signaling a push for young ideas despite foul weather.
Vern Stolz, chairman of the Sandpoint Lions Club Toy's for Toy's program, urged the public to bring good usable repairable toys to the Sandpoint Fire Station. Toys will be prepared by Lions members and volunteers for distribution to families in need at Christmas. Last year 109 families and 426 children benefited through support from clubs, merchants, churches, and individuals. Stolz invited participation and offered toy pickup, noting a Toy Shop setup after November 15 at the Ice and Fuel Building on 5th Avenue, with direct drop-off for boys at the shop and contact information for Stolz or Mrs. Wayne Hook.
Vallieres and Harper George Harper led a diverse field in Sandpoint city council race with Harper outpolling unopposed Mayor Floyd L. Gray. Unofficial totals show Harper 555 votes and turnout above 83 percent of 1,009 registered voters despite drizzle.
Despite illness and a swarm of write-in rivals Mayor Floyd L Gray won re election. He cast his vote by absentee ballot while recovering from a light heart attack. Gray received 527 votes. Write ins Parker Bistline Bopp Howell and 31 others were listed with smaller tallies. In Clark Fork I White Jrt and Arnie Gunderson won two four year seats and Ernest Bixel won a two year term.
