Cenarrusa Opens Office for Petitions in Boise
Secretary of State Pete Cenarrusa will keep his Boise office open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. next weekend to accept nominating petitions for state and national offices. Attorney General staff say offices must be open every day June 1 through June 7 to give candidates seven full filing days. Cenarrusa notes the weekend opening must cover all business and promises courteous service even if business is light.

Beach House Burglary Reported at Sand Point City Beach
Police say a break in at the Sand point City Beach snack bar led to theft of about $60 in candy and cigarettes. The break in was found early Monday after entry by kicking in a boarded area under an air conditioner in the northeast corner. The Snack bar is operated by Dave Smith Hope. Investigators continue the case.

Car rolls after rear-end crash injures two in Sandpoint
Greg T. Pick twenty and his step-sister Monica McGever seventeen sustained superficial cuts Sunday when the car driven by Pick rolled over after colliding with Dennis J. Swain thirty one and his turning left at Granite Hill. State Patrolman Harvey Biffle cited nonworking turn signal and passing attempt as causes. Weather mostly fair in Sandpoint with light southwest winds and small chance of rain.

Tank Explodes Injuring Libby Man After Self Fill Request
Libby man Jack Foust escaped serious injury after a pickup gas tank exploded at Gas & Go Service Station in Libby. An apparent short in an electric pump wire in the pickup bed ignited fumes when the nozzle touched a live wire. Foust sustained burns to the face chest and arms and was hospitalized at Bonner General Hospital.

300 Foot Banana Split Draws Spokane Crowd
Several hundred youngsters in Spokane gathered at the Spokane Baptist Temple to witness and taste a 300 foot long banana split. The desert used 60 gallons of vanilla strawberry and chocolate ice cream, 80 pounds of bananas, four large cans of chocolate syrup and 24 cans of whipped cream.

Breakins Reported Across Bonner County Over Holiday Weekend
Several breakins were reported to the Bonner County Sheriff's Office during the holiday weekend. Mrs. Loren Jones of Sagle reported a chainsaw theft from her residence last Thursday night. Dan Collins of Kennewick reported a burglarized house in Careywood. A breakin in Westmond left a missing dog. A cabin near Indian Creek also reported a breakin with no items listed missing.
