Church Endorses Drought Request in Idaho

Senator Frank Church urged four federal departments to recognize seven northern Idaho counties as Federal Emergency Drought Impact Areas and to designate eight more counties for emergency livestock aid. He noted 37 counties already qualify, stressing water shortages and cattlemen’s moisture problems in the north and urged a full state-wide declaration.

WWP Seeks Power Surcharge to Offset Extra Costs

Washington Water Power president Wendell Satre urged the Idaho Public Utilities Commission to allow a monthly surcharge of about 1.40 per customer to cover power bought outside the WWP network. He noted WWP has paid three times normal costs to suppliers including Cominco Ltd and Montana Power Co, totaling 1.9 million dollars already spent.

Boot theft fouls Sandpoint Junior Miss royalty parade

A black 1965 Plymouth boot cover for the convertible top, used by Sandpoint Junior Miss royalty in Northwest parades, was stolen last week. The courtly girls seek its return before the next parade and ask anyone with information to contact Brad Palmen at 910 Oak St with no questions asked.

Horse Strike Fatality on Riley Creek Road

Gerald W. Anderson of Laclede struck and killed a horse owned by Irene Matthews on Riley Creek Road while driving north at about 5 a.m. Sunday. Damage to Anderson's pickup was estimated at 1500 dollars.

Man Dies Not Involved In Accident Not Applicable

A Laclede man Denzil L Stout was injured in a one car rollover on US 2 west of Laclede about 9 p m Saturday. The Bonner County sheriff reports Stout’s vehicle left the road travelled 350 feet went over an embankment and landed on its top causing about 2000 dollars damage and head injuries. He was taken to Newport Hospital where he was treated and released.

Car Collision at Washington and Hickory Street

A crash occurred around noon Monday at the Washington and Hickory Street intersection involving Monte J. Russell 20 of Sagle and Floyd L. Eveland Sr. Russell was cited for failing to yield to the car on his right. Damages were estimated at 350 dollars for Eveland and 300 dollars for Russell.

Cane Day drives $466 for White Cane Day in Sandpoint

Sandpoint Lions raised $466.50 Saturday for White Cane Day with 13 volunteers soliciting at local businesses. The funds go to the Lions Eye Bank in Seattle, which has financed tissue for over 800 corneal transplants since 1980, while Lions donated nearly $800 in eyewear to Bonner County seniors.
