North Idaho Credit Union Posts Record Growth in 1975

Federal Credit Union branch in Idaho reports 32 percent asset growth to 848,000 in 1975 while member savings rise 35 percent to 790,514. Loans increase 26 percent to 762,534 and membership grows from 864 to 1,012. Warren Hall and Gary Gore elected to the board.

Old City Jail To Be Used As Computer Room In Sandpoint

City Councilman Bid Benoit announced plans to convert part of the old Sandpoint city jail into a climate controlled computer room for the L-5000 system. Roy Leen from McFarland Polo Co data processing volunteered for months to help, with mayor approval to create airflow by punching a wall hole and remodeling. Leen advised form changes to save up to 1800 annually in forms and 500 in labor, while the system would automate warrants writing and payroll, improving timing and budget reporting.

Safety Conference rejects Idaho public employe safety rules

Boise UPI report: The 13th biennial Governors Statewide Safety Conference wrapped two days with 14 resolutions debated. Only one of 15 resolutions, targeting safety work rules for public employees and their assignments linked to mental competency, was rejected by about 400 delegates.

Ward New City Names Bob Ward Assistant Chief

Sandpoint Police Chief Larry Sterling announced the hire of Bonner County deputy Bob Ward as assistant police chief to replace Richard Cesler who resigned. Ward will start April 1 after moving from county to city service and aims to boost citizen involvement.

Idaho Taxpayers Leader Sees Possible General Fund Hikes

Max Yost of Associated Taxpayers of Idaho says residents fared reasonably in the recent session but warns future legislatures may consider general fund tax hikes. He notes the extension of four mill property tax relief and the cut in county school mill levies from eight to four, with most mill-levy increase bills defeated.

Train Crash Near Cocolalla Lake Causes Minor Damage

Burlington Northern train 82 struck a vehicle at a crossing near the east end of Cocolalla Lake last Friday afternoon. No injuries, damage estimated at 250 dollars. The driver’s name was not reported. Lloyd Whipple said the accident caused minimal damage and quoted the bumper being ticked.

McClure Co sponsors Regulatory Review Act

Sen. James McClure R Idaho cosponsored the Regulatory Review Act of 1976 to require federal agencies proposing rules to report estimated costs and effects on interstate commerce to Congress. He argued the measure shifts rule writing from agencies to Congress to enhance oversight and curb burdensome regulations.

Idaho Attorney General Threatens Action Over School Inequities

Idaho Attorney General Wayne Kidwell says he may sue to correct inequities in public education across districts after discovering disparities while his children attend Adams School in Boise. He cites missing teachers and resources in Boise schools and argues federal funding criteria and state constitutional duties require equal educational opportunities for all students. Truby, the state education head, was unavailable for comment.
