Mountain Home Woman Injured In House Explosion
A Mountain Home woman Lucille Pan none, 20, was burned in a Thursday night explosion that destroyed her home and sparked a fire. She was treated for first to third degree burns at Elmore County Memorial Hospital. no other residents were harmed. Local officials and City Councilman John Hiler said investigators would determine the cause of the blast which occurred shortly after 10 PM.

Alert Deputy Trainee Helps Foil Garfield Bay Burglary
Deputy Trainee Jim Slaughter spotted a mud studded pickup with a stash of tools on Garfield Bay Road Tuesday evening. A search warrant led to the seizure at the Schilling home, where Donald E. Schilling 35, Robert H. Sonny Schilling 36, and Gerald R. Shobe 19 were arrested for second degree burglary and placed in Bonner County Jail on $100 bonds each.

Schools Will Open Monday In Bonner County
District Transportation Director Kenneth Holt announces all Bonner County schools will open Monday March 20 as road conditions improve for bus routes. Some roads remain impassable in the Selle District yet most routes should reach about 90 percent of students with parental help at pickup points.

Longtime Sandpoint Teacher Bertha Johnson Dies at 92
Bertha Elizabeth Johnson died at Sandpoint Manor on March 16 at age 92. Born May 10, 1879 in Watkins Glen New York she taught in Rathdrum and at Sandpoint’s original Farmin School before marrying Peter Johnson in 1902. She later ran the insurance side of their law firm at 202 South First Avenue and was noted as a local historian. Funeral services will be held March 18 at 5 p.m. from the Johnson residence with cremation to follow.

Deer Rescue Abandoned On Dworshak Reservoir Ice
Idaho Fish and Game officials halted a rescue of about 100 white tail deer stranded on rotten ice behind the Dworshak Dam on the Clear Water River. Biologist Ted Neske said efforts with helicopters and jet boats left wet tired deer and frustrated rescuers, with an estimated 10 to 15 deer likely to die before drifting ashore.
