Weekend Accidents Plague Area Drivers
A Samuels man escaped injury Friday evening when his 1971 Ford pickup ran off U.S. 2 west of Dover and landed top down in water at the embankment bottom. Lawrence B. Courier, 49, was cited for driving while intoxicated after the vehicle, heavily damaged, was righted by a wrecker. In a separate crash on U.S. 95 near Lignite Road, Hugo Walli and Toni Walli were treated and released for injuries from an embankment collision after the car crossed into the opposite lane and overcorrected. Mrs Walli was cited for driving mishap.

Joy Ann Reed, 35, of Sandpoint, said a car struck hers at the 3rd and Main intersection around 10 p.m. Friday. The other driver stopped briefly, apologized, then fled. Reed's vehicle sustained about 350 dollars in damage.

Dr. Angus Snedden of Sandpoint told police Friday that mail was taken from his mailbox at the post office. At least two checks valued at 153 dollars were stolen and the envelopes dumped in a waste can at a local gas station.

Two bicycles found over the weekend became city property. Duke Warren of Sandpoint reported a stripped 10 speed bike abandoned behind his business at 1111 S 3rd. Police later found an abandoned 15 speed English racer at City Beach parking lot near 1 a.m. Saturday.
