Arabs Contain Silence on Oil Embargo End Plan

Nine Arab oil ministers closed six hours of talks in Tripoli with a communique delaying a final decision until Sunday in Vienna. Reports circulated that the embargo against the United States might be lifted, possibly on a two month trial basis, amid Middle East peace talks.

Church Blasts Hand Gun Amendment

Sen. Frank Church warned that a Kennedy hand gun registration amendment would harass law abiding citizens and lead to broader controls on all firearms. The proposal, added to death penalty legislation, was tabled 68 to 21 after his Senate remarks.

Merchants To Meet Tuesday In Sandpoint

The Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce Merchants Committee will meet Tuesday March 19 at noon in the Edgewater Lodge. City Clerk Dave Easton will attend along with K&K Committee members. Moonlight Madness Sale plans will be finalized. Chairman Hazel La Moreaux urges members to attend and bring another merchant.

Idaho House Advances License Increase For Fish and Game

The Idaho House passed 36 to 29 a bill raising resident and nonresident licenses with a $2 hike for fishing and hunting for adults 18 plus. A combined hunting and fishing license would rise $4, to $10 for next year, with reconsideration filed for today before senate consideration.

County Roads Closed To Hauling In Spring Breakup

County roads in Districts 1 and 3 are closed to hauling due to spring breakup. Brockway and Popplewell own the districts. Forest Service ranger Peterson warned Sandpoint roads are soft, Bunko Road into Lakeview is closed, and Trout Creek Road is shut to all log hauling to prevent road bed damage.

City Endorses Jr. Wrestlers in Sandpoint League

Sandpoint officials sponsor 47 Sandpoint Junior High wrestlers after coach Chuck Schoonover urged city support. The team will compete in the Panhandle Junior Wrestling League against Post Falls Coeur d Alene Kellogg and Wallace, starting with a Saturday match at Post Falls High School.

Burglary Suspects Nabbed After Oldtown Break-In

Bonner County Deputy Sheriff Jim Culpepper arrested Andrew Terry 21 of Cusick Washington and Michael Snyder 21 of Newport for First Degree Burglary after a Pik Kwik break in Oldtown Idaho. Bond set at 5000 each. Officers found one suspect beneath a porch and another in a fan vent. The arrests followed a similar incident earlier in the week.
