House tax relief plan stalls on surplus funds
Idaho House tax writers approved almost 12 million dollars in tax relief and directed any extra money to pre pay endowment debt. A bloc blocked using 6 million to cut the eight mill county school levy to four mills and set aside remaining surplus for parks debt prepayment. Gov Andrus backs road improvement using 4.2 million of the surplus while a permanent 15 dollar grocery credit faces passage to reduce ongoing revenue.

Leonard Brabham of Bonner County faces an $80 000 claim after a scuffle on the courthouse stairs during a attempted citizen arrest of Post Falls officer Roger A. Davis. Deputy Harry Button said about 35 to 40 people blocked access and no arrest occurred. Brabham had been arrested Jan 27 at a Husky Truck Stop on old Highway 10.

Jailbreak Suspect Receives Withheld Term in Idaho Case
One of three men charged in a July 22 armed jailbreak received a two and a half year withheld sentence and probation after a preliminary hearing. Steven Staskiewecz aka Steven Alexander, 23, of North Hollywood, pled Guilty to attempting to assist in a jailbreak, with other charges dismissed following a polygraph.

Pickup linked to Kellogg slaying recovered in Missoula
James Ailshire, 49, of Post Falls, was found stabbed to death near Kellogg. His 1968 pickup, last seen with him at a Post Falls cafe, was found in Missoula and returned to Kellogg. authorities say he was stabbed in the neck and chest and likely thrown from a moving vehicle on I 90.
