Idaho ISP conducts spot checks to cut traffic crashes
Mot or Spot ISP is conducting a spot check campaign to reduce traffic accidents. Corporal Ron Bruce says the effort includes radar use for speeding violations and spot checks for license, registration, safety stickers, and vehicle condition. Ten citations were issued in a one hour period last Tuesday. Authorities warn motorists about the new radar devices.

Two Local Youth Plead Guilty in Drug Case

Budget cuts threaten closure of Hospital North at Orofino
State Mental Health Director Jack Steneck warned a House committee that Hospital North may close if a tentative budget becomes final. With funds for about five staff, the facility could operate one year before transfer to the state land board. Acting Health Administrator Des Aulniers noted the proposed mental health budget is about 500000 below the current year.
Three Drug Arrests Near Bonners Ferry Named
Boundary County Prosecuting Attorney James F Lyons announced three people were arrested at a trailer park near Bonners Ferry on misdemeanor possession charges. Suspects include Pat Jones 17 and Mike Jones 19 from Naples Idaho and a Seattle area youth. Marijuana and amphetamines were seized. Howard Scott a former Bonner County deputy led the probe. Scott said more arrests are expected.

Spokanites Hear Wilderness Talk
Public meeting at Spokane Falls Community College heard support for designating two northern Idaho areas as wilderness. The Salmon Priest area near Priest Lake and the Scotchmans Peak area north of the Clark Fork River were discussed with Kaniksu and Kootenai National Forests involved. Tom Nygren of the Kaniksu noted prior meetings in Sandpoint and Troy drew good crowds, about 100 attendees each given the sparse population.

Housing Group Plans Meeting
An organizational meeting for a proposed Housing Coalition is set for Saturday March 11 at Community Hall here. The local group will join a state wide organization with a chapter in each Idaho county. The coalition aims to investigate housing rents building conditions facilities and related aspects as a possible start of a state Level Housing Rights Commission.
