Beaten at Hope Hope Cafe owner hospitalized after assault

Frank Murphy 78 owner of Hope Hope Cafe and Lounge was attacked at about 3 am and struck on the head. He fell onto bottles causing serious injuries but detectives say there was no robbery and no apparent motive. Murphy remains in satisfactory condition at Bonner General Hospital.

Priest River school board selects Denman as chief negotiator

Bonner County trustees unanimously appointed former board member Bill G Denman as district chief negotiator for 1977 78 teacher contract after brief debate. Marian Ebbett announced an 18 member Special Citizens Task Force and highlighted construction concerns at Priest River High School. Energy saving measures were approved and a Sagle PTA request was denied.

Task Force Named To Study District Needs In Bonner County

Marian Ebbett names eighteen Bonner County residents to a special citizens advisory task force to study the school district's needs especially in facilities. The first meeting is March 14 at the District Administration building and a final report with suggestions is due by May 10. Chamber approves fire inspection tour for Sandpoint stores

About 30 Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce members approved a fire hazard inspection tour of local businesses slated for October during a noon Elks Club luncheon. John Weimer of United States Fidelity and Guarantee Co. described how the insurance underwriters association conducts yearly tours of small communities in Washington or Idaho to inform store owners of potential hazards.

Wylie urges policy shift to raise private timber output

Clifford Wylie of Green Gold Forest Land Management told a Woodland Economics workshop at the University of Idaho that private forestry in the Pacific Northwest needs revised public priorities and national policies. He urged tax changes to encourage long term private investment, protection from encroachment, deferred death taxes, and retention of capital gains treatment to boost timber production and stumpage prices.

Sandpoint High to stage concert of light classical music

Sandpoint High Junior High School bands and choir will present a four group concert of light classical music on Thursday March 17 at 8 p.m. in the Junior High auditorium. Marion Royle will direct the orchestra, Steve Cobourn will lead the two other groups, and admission is 1 for adults 50 cents for students and seniors. Proceeds go to the groups for music and spring program equipment.

Camera Stolen From Sandpoint High School

Tina Gustaveson a 16 year old at Sandpoint High reports a camera theft Tuesday from her locker or the Cedar Post office. A 35 mm Vivitar valued at 157 dollars was bought last September and a camera strap was found in a boys’ bathroom.

Car damaged in Sandpoint near Dover Post Office

Elaine Bandy reported to Bonner County Sheriffs that her car, parked near the Dover Post Office while she was at work Monday, had the hood dented the windshield scratched and hubcaps stolen.

Two Sandpoint Men Arrested on Drug Charge

Two Sandpoint men Mike S. Goebert 20 and Brent W. Sleep 19 were arrested about 4 30 Tuesday and charged with possession of a controlled substance. Bail has not yet been determined.
