Boise article marks Save Your Vision Week March 6 12 celebrating the 50th anniversary since 1927. It urges Americans to value eye care as part of health, noting advances in optometry and the need for ongoing eye health habits and periodic eye care.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will lay the cornerstone for its first South American temple in Sao Paulo on Wednesday with President Spencer Kimball presiding. Marion Romney will attend as second counselor. the temple serves about 170,000 South American Mormons and aims for completion in 1978.
Spokane Civic Theatre presents Noel Coward's Private Lives directed by Margot Ogden featuring George McGarry Joan McKenzie Pamela Noble Walt Miller and Bonnie Carling. Public performances run March 11 12 and weekly Wednesdays through April 2 with extra Sundays March 13 and 27 at 7 00 p.m. Reservations 325 0081.
Dr. Wallace Frasher of USC Medical School and Caltech developed an in vivo microscope to observe blood and tissue transfer. A 10 foot high structure with a 400 pound platform supports animal subjects for life‑support and access to the optical system. The device records matter moving from blood to tissue using a tiny radioactive crystal, aiming to reveal capillary exchange and blood flow dynamics. Frasher works with USC County Medical Center cardiovascular lab funded by the American Heart Association.

Wayne Riley Hanks, 36, suffered third degree burns over 25 percent of his body when a fire destroyed Eddy's Baking Co. warehouse and thrift shop in Twin Falls. Firefighters battled the blaze after fumes ignited by a natural gas furnace as Hanks pumped gasoline into a delivery truck. Gloria Jackson escaped uninjured. Hanks was flown to Brook Army Medical Center in Texas and listed in serious condition.
Spokane Zookeepers and planners backed by Zooplan Associates say the city can support a zoo but funding must go beyond private gifts. Spokesman Jack Jones announced a formal plan and bond-issue needs linked to the planned facility size for a Spokane area zoo.
Idaho officials report gasoline use rose to 500 million gallons in 1976 from about 471 million in 1975 after the Arab oil embargo. A larger vehicle fleet and more miles driven are cited, with 5.5 billion miles in 1973 and 5.9 billion miles in 1975.
Mabel C. Hartshorn, 83, died at Sandpoint Manor Sunday March 6. She married Richard Allen Hartshorn on June 3, 1923. he died in 1968. The Hartshorns moved to the area in 1936 from Stoner Wyoming. Survivors include a daughter Ruth Booth of Priest River, two grandsons Steven and Roger Booth, two brothers Arthur Collins of Ogden Utah and Leroy Collins of San Francisco, and numerous nieces and nephews. Private family services were held at Moon Chapel Tuesday March 8 at 10:00 am with Chuck Wigton officiating. Interment followed at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
The Idaho Supreme Court disbarred Twin Falls attorney Jay L. Depew for illegal business dealings and bar code violations. Depew disputed the decision, citing a complex case involving a Ketchum apartment complex and a condominium security interest that was later reinstated after a breach of contract finding.
