State and Sperry Rand clash over Univac lease in Idaho
In Boise the Univac division of Sperry Rand faces removal from the State Office Building by Thursday or the state will start paying rent for the space the computer occupies. The dispute pits the state against Sperry Rand over whether the use agreement is binding. IBM may replace Univac, and the firm hints at legal action to force retention of the $1.5 million Univac. The Idaho attorney general’s office questions the purchase legality. The state had paid about $31,984 monthly for the Univac system.
