New North Cascades Highway Opens With Vacation Potential
The North Cascades Highway opens for a 49 mile mountain drive with waterfalls and gorges. Winthrop Washington reshapes its facade in old west style ahead of the route opening. Diablo Lake Resort near the highway plans a new 85 seat restaurant costing 125000 to 130000 and awaits Park Service approval. Howard and Fay Bradley run the lakeside resort and will add a lounge and dining room in 1974. Tours are offered on the lake by Seattle Light.
