Rubber Workers Strike Firestone After Talks Break Down
The United Rubber Workers Union began a strike against Firestone Tire & Rubber Co after talks failed at about 3 am EDT. The union had planned a midnight walkout but decided to proceed hour by hour as discussions continued. The company called the demands unrealistic and did not reveal major sticking points. In California, Kings County budget documents show a $96 589 grant to cover 21 remaining positions until funds are exhausted.
