Trains Begin Full Speed On New Sandpoint Link
Burlinton Northern installs signals allowing trains to run at full speed Monday June 18 on a two mile Sandpoint connector. The $2.7 million line links former Great Northern and Northern Pacific routes, cutting east west freight times by 20 to 25 minutes with dispatch from Spokane. First moves June 11 operated at 20 mph during final signal work.

Three separate weekend crashes in Bonner County resulted in no injuries. A car owned by Randy Wayne Hawkins of Sagle was abandoned at Kemps Texaco after a single vehicle crash on South First Street in Sandpoint. Witnesses say it raced with two others before hitting a guard rail and being left at the station.
