Kamloops Derby Crowns Simon, Coleman Top Anglers

Jack Coleman of Sagle captured the largest Kamloops at 20 lb 4 oz, earning 1 000 dollars as the K&K Week Derby ended. Lee Riddle of Hope placed second with an 18 lb fish, Bert Laswell of Sand Point was third, and Charles Libby of Spokane fourth. Roy Harris of Sandpoint won the largest Dolly Varden at 11 lb 15 oz, with Kevin Jones of Sandpoint posting top bass catches. The closing awards recognized many prizes and a window-display contest by local merchants.

Three Arrests For Cultivation Of Controlled Substances

Clark Fork deputies arrested Thomas Bailik and Lucille Eagle Friday night on felony cultivation charges after marijuana plants were found at a residence. Bailik posted a $1,000 bond and Eagle was released on her own recognizance. Stanley Potter faces cultivation and possession charges with intent to sell after deputies found a large quantity of marijuana and several plants at his home. he remained in custody Monday morning.

IRS Names Idaho District Director Philip Sansotta

Philip N. Sansotta was sworn in as the Internal Revenue Service Idaho District Director. He previously served as Assistant Regional Commissioner for Administration in the IRS Southeast Region and holds a public administration degree from Ohio Wesleyan University. Sansotta is a Marion Ohio native, married to Barbara Sansotta, and they have eight children.

Arson Strikes Arrow Tie Mill in Ponderay Twice Over Weekend

Two fires broke out at Arrow Tie Mill in Ponderay over the weekend with sheriff deputy calling one blaze quite extensive. The first fire appeared Saturday afternoon in lumber piles near Kootenai Point. a second fire was seen Sunday in dump piles. Both were extinguished by Northside Fire Department as investigators from the sheriff's office and Northside pursue leads amid a ten week surge of at least 14 suspected arsons.

Reckless Driving Charges Across Sandpant Area

A fifteen year old Sandpant youth, Michael Wade Wooden, was arrested Friday night after police received reports of an erratic driver near Fir and Jefferson. City Beach drag racing led to arrests of William T. Kuehl and Blayne Davidson on reckless driving charges, with Monte J. Russell and Sagle resident 20 year old ??? also cited at First and Superior.

C. C. Whitney of 533 Olive Street Sandpoint reported to police last Thursday that two fishing rods and reels were stolen from his pickup parked in front of his house. The value was estimated at 70 dollars.
