Lifeguards are on duty seven days a week at Sandpoint City Beach from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Labor Day. Swimming lessons start June 20 depending on weather and water temperature. Concession stand open daily until 6 p.m. Information available mid June.
The fourth of seven sessions is set for Wednesday at 7 30 p m in the Washington Water Power Community Room Coeur d Alene. State Sen Kermit Kiebert and Sen Art Manley will discuss their legislative roles and how individuals and groups can work with the Legislature to improve local facilities for the disabled. Ronald J. Cahill 23 of Sandpoint sustained minor injuries after a car driven by Juli K. Madsen 16 of Sandpoint turned in front of him at Main and Forest. Madsen was cited for reckless driving. Damages were about 10 dollars to the Ford and 45 dollars to Cahill’s bicycle. Cahill was treated and released from Bonner General Hospital.
Police report details a burglary at The Kaniksu Bar 317 Cedar Sandpoint after closing. About 433 dollars in cash and checks were taken from a money bag kept behind the bar. no arrests have been made. Brenda Bergman reported the incident.
Brian J. Lande 20 of Sandpoint was arrested around 10 p.m. Monday by Bonner County sheriff's deputies and charged with possession of a controlled substance. He posted a $100 bond and was released.
Dale E. Schroder 21 was southbound on State Highway 57 about 7:20 p m Saturday when he lost control ran off the road struck posts and mailboxes and rolled two and a half times He was thrown from the car which then rolled over him He was first taken to Newport Hospital and later moved to Sacred Heart Medical Center Spokane where he remains in serious condition.
Critics blast the proposed interim ordinance as costly and restrictive especially for small landowners and subdivisions. Commissioner Brockway promises revisions to meet July 8 deadline while planning and zoning head Sam Wentz attends the hearing.
Robert Larson Jr of Athol Idaho pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit rape and an infamous crime against nature. A Montana couple reported a hitchhiker kidnapping near Sandpoint. Larson was arrested on Highway 41 about an hour after the attack. Judge Towles set sentencing for July 6 with a maximum 14 year term.
The K&K Committee meets for its final session before K&K Week, tonight at 7 p.m. in the Pastime Banquet Room. The no host dinner meeting is open to all interested attendees.
An 11 year old Sandpoint girl caught a 14 lb 12 oz Kamloops during K and K Derby week but she was not registered for the event and cannot win the $1,000 cash award. Tallbom’s 15 lb Kamloops remains the benchmark as derby ticket holders race to register by 7 p.m. Saturday June 11. Derby rules require a $3 ticket and registration at local resorts marinas or participating Sandpoint businesses.
Willow Bay Marina owner Bill Enos says he complied with a temporary restraining order to halt docking facility work while keeping most of the business open. The state seeks a permanent injunction pending a public hearing on June 21 to decide whether a permit will be issued for the navigational encroachment into Pend Oreille River, alleging potential harm to wildlife habitat and water quality.
Dan Robinson the county weed supervisor has set special meetings for residents to learn weed control and identification. Meetings begin at 8:00 p.m. at Careywood Community Hall Sandpoint Community Hall and Westmond Grange Hall on June 7 8 and 11. The sessions are free and open to the public.
