Lifeguards are on duty seven days a week at Sandpoint City Beach from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Labor Day. Swimming lessons start June 20 depending on weather and water temperature. Concession stand open daily until 6 p.m. Information available mid June.

Bicyclist Hurt When Car Turns Onto Street. Driver Cited
Ronald J. Cahill 23 of Sandpoint sustained minor injuries after a car driven by Juli K. Madsen 16 of Sandpoint turned in front of him at Main and Forest. Madsen was cited for reckless driving. Damages were about 10 dollars to the Ford and 45 dollars to Cahill’s bicycle. Cahill was treated and released from Bonner General Hospital.

Police report details a burglary at The Kaniksu Bar 317 Cedar Sandpoint after closing. About 433 dollars in cash and checks were taken from a money bag kept behind the bar. no arrests have been made. Brenda Bergman reported the incident.

Schroder 21 was southbound on State Highway 57 about 7:20 p m Saturday when he lost control ran off the road struck posts and mailboxes and rolled two and a half times He was thrown from the car which then rolled over him He was first taken to Newport Hospital and later moved to Sacred Heart Medical Center Spokane where he remains in serious condition.

Guilty Plea by Robert Larson Jr in Assault Case
Robert Larson Jr of Athol Idaho pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit rape and an infamous crime against nature. A Montana couple reported a hitchhiker kidnapping near Sandpoint. Larson was arrested on Highway 41 about an hour after the attack. Judge Towles set sentencing for July 6 with a maximum 14 year term.
