Eight year old Spokane boy found safe after night near Half Moon Lake

The eight year old boy from Spokane was found safe Tuesday morning after going missing Monday afternoon near Half Moon Lake, 19 miles north of Newport. Search and Rescue teams from Newport and Kootenai County used bloodhounds. George Lun den spotted him at 11 10 a m and the trail led to his location in the southwest area of the lake. He was unharmed except for scratches and taken to Newport Hospital.

Idaho officials cite power company as fish replacement stall

Hearing Closed In Murder Trial

District Court Magistrate Quentin Hardin closed the preliminary hearing for murder suspects Edward D. Palmer and Milton W. Tarter, both Irrigan Oregon, tied to the May 19 stabbing death of Opal Marie Almanza near Sandpoint. The defense sought a discovery motion and the prosecutor agreed to surrender material under Idaho rules.

Store Stolen From Pickup and Home in Cedar Street Incident

James J. Cramer of Clark Fork reported an electric stove stolen from the back of his pickup while parked outside a Cedar Street restaurant Saturday night. Value estimated at $59. Holly Whittaker of Sand Point reported multiple items stolen from her home Sunday night including a men’s 10 speed bicycle three baseball bats 10 baseballs and three baseball units with no value estimate available.

Collision near Sandpoint High School injures two cars

Douglas C. Ellenbecker, 19, of Sandpoint pulled from a stop sign in front of Janell M. Watt. Watt’s car struck the right side of Ellenbecker’s, causing about $2,500 damage to Watt’s vehicle and $1,000 to Ellenbecker’s. Ellenbecker cited for inattentive driving.

Shed Destroyed by Fire on Ruth Street

A storage shed at 701 Ruth Street was destroyed by a blaze about 11 45 p m Tuesday. The shed belonged to Ron Mettler of Sandpoint and was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Officials do not know the fire origin.

Man Sentenced in 1976 Drive-in Robbery Case

Michael Phillips was sentenced in district court to 15 years for armed robbery and second degree kidnapping tied to the July 18 1976 BJS drive-in heist. Police Chief Larry Sterling said Phillips gagged and confined several victims in a storeroom and stole 200 dollars.
