Ehrlichman Denies Nixon Explicitly Authorized Ellsberg Break-In
Ehrlichman testified before the Senate Watergate Committee that Nixon did not explicitly authorize the Ellsberg psychiatrist office break-in but defended it as justified to stop leaks of Pentagon Papers. He recalled Nixon stressing strong actions and mentioned a covert CIA-linked effort to obtain a psychiatric profile of Ellsberg. The raid occurred Labor Day weekend 1971, led by Hunt and Liddy, with ongoing questions about legality and presidential power.
